Located in Marahau, the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park, we offer an experience to suit everyone.

We have been sharing our unique, stunning coastline with the world since 1977.  The golden sand beaches, crystal clear water, native rain forest and abundant marine life all combine to create experiences that will take your breath away.

The Abel Tasman Centre is the departure point for one day and multi-day hiking, kayaking and scenic cruises in the park. We also have a general store, the Marahau Beach Camp and sumptuous waterfront dining at Hooked on Marahau.

Water Taxis

Marahau Water Taxis runs water transportation services in the Abel Tasman National Park, departing from The Abel Tasman Centre in Marahau, all year round.

Scheduled sailings depart daily and are a popular way to experience the Abel Tasman’s Coastal Track. Whether you want a short walk, a long hike, a relaxed scenic cruise or simply to spend the day on a beach, we have a trip for you.

Sea Kayaking with MSK (Marahau Sea Kayaks) is a fantastic way to experience the Abel Tasman National Park’s coastline. World famous for it’s ideal sea kayaking conditions, crystal clear waters and golden sand beaches you will not be disappointed!

MSK offers a range of guided, freedom and multi-day trip options, many requiring no experience. All trips are booked and depart from the Abel Tasman Centre in Marahau.

Hooked on Marahau is waterfront dining at its best, with a divine menu and wine list matched only by its breathtaking views of Tasman Bay.

Happy hour runs every day from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. A selection of four great local wines is available for $5 per glass and handles of Sprig & Fern craft beer and cider.

You can choose either sun-drenched outdoor dining or an intimate indoor table. Either way, your experience will be fantastic and uniquely Marahau. Locally sourced ingredients and wine make for a sumptuous, fresh and uniquely local experience.

Open from October to April for evening dining, as well as for breakfast and lunch through the middle of the summer season.

Exquisite coffee and fresh baking is available throughout the day as well as full breakfast and lunch menus with à la carte dining in the evenings.

Hooked on Marahau has four locally brewed Sprig & Fern beers on tap.

Conveniently located next to the Abel Tasman Centre in Marahau, only 15 minutes walk from the Abel Tasman track entrance and a 1 hour drive from Nelson.

Marahau Beach Camp

Campervan, Caravan, Tent Sites, Cabins and Backpacker Lodge

The Marahau Beach Camp is located 100 meters from the beach and next to the departure point for the activities in the Abel Tasman National Park. We're also across the road from the general store and Hooked on Marahau, the waterfront cafe and beer garden.

Our small, quiet camp has spacious sites between mature trees, most of which are powered.  We also have cabins and a backpacker lodge.  Facilities include a kitchen, laundry, showers, a kid's play area, BBQs and wireless internet access.

Cabins

 The Marahau Beach Camp has 5 cabins available for booking throughout the whole year. These comfortable, compact, one roomed spaces, sleep either 4 or 5 on one double and 2 or 3 singles (bunks). All cabins have their own kitchen with utensils, a hob, jug, fridge and dining table. (Linen is available for an additional charge).

All cabins share a bathroom facility and have a car parking space right in front. Please note, the hot water for showers is coin activated using $1 coins.

Backpackers

The Marahau Beach Camp Backpacker Lodge is a standalone, fully contained lodge.  It has one private double room and two dorm rooms that sleep 5 and 8, bathrooms, a laundry, fully equipped kitchen, dinning and lounge areas, TV and BBQ.

The Backpacker Lodge is also available for sole occupancy bookings; ideal for large family or small school groups.

Our Location

We operate a bus transfer service from Nelson or Motueka all year round

The Abel Tasman National Park is located at the top of New Zealand’s South Island, to the west of Nelson.

Although the Abel Tasman is the smallest national park in New Zealand, it is one of the most visited. Along with its golden beaches and crystal clear waters, the accessibility of the Abel Tasman makes it popular for half-day, full-day and multi-day activities.

We operate a bus transfer service from Nelson or Motueka all year round.
